Eagle breast plate
The breastplate was worn on the leather cartridge box sling (strap) by Union soldiers
The breastplate was worn on the leather cartridge box sling (strap) by Union soldiers. Due to the sling worn so it crossed the chest, the breastplate would be located approximately in the middle of the chest. Hence “breast plate”. It has two hooks on the back that leather pieces are inserted thru to hold it to the sling. Round in shape with an eagle holding three arrows in one talon and the branch of peach in the other. About 3 1/2″ in diameter.
